Global temperatures are rising. Most experts believe that we can avoid severe impacts if the temperature stays below a 2°C rise. This is a position recognised by the United Nations Convention on Climate Change. However, humanity seems to like it hot, and current emission trends are likely to push the temperature beyond the 2°C target. As we drive our way towards a warmer future, policy makers are beginning to ask questions about how we can prepare for and adapt to severe impacts.
The IMPRESSIONS project brings together 27 universities, research institutes and enterprises to explicitly work on the uncertainties and strong non-linear changes we can expect from higher-end climate impacts. The outcomes should be a set of innovative and effective policy strategies and measures in key social, economic, and environmental sectors that can support decision-making at the European, national and local levels. Prospex is excited to be part of the IMPRESSIONS consortium and will take the lead in engaging key stakeholders in innovative foresight processes that help identify and analyse the high-end scenarios that may define our future.
