On the 17th of November, Prospex facilitated the COST Get Together at the Théatre de Vaudeville.
This annual event organised by COST, the European framework for cooperation in science and technology, gathered stakeholders from the Brussels-based research funding network, including researchers from industry, academia, national agencies and many others. The purpose of the event was to highlight the role of networking and coordinating initiatives in research across Europe.
Prospex facilitated three rounds of semi-structured interviews, which provided speakers with an opportunity to reflect on today’s challenges for researchers in Europe, and how these could can be addressed.
In the opening debate, high-level speakers shared their experiences of networking, leadership and empowering environments. They also explored the links between academia and policy making.
Young, up-and-coming researchers engaged with their peers in the following interview rounds, sharing their personal challenges and debating on the many strategies to further their research. Among the issues that were intensely discussed, were how to showcase one’s achievements and link up across sectors and disciplines, as well as the particularities of European research funding mechanisms, and which specific approach researchers can use to access these funds.
After the last round of interviews, with a moderator who doubled as a lead singer, the evening took on a more informal character and saw the researchers continuing their discussions whilst enjoying dinner, drinks and live musical entertainment, all of which in the elegant Théatre de Vaudeville.
