On 7 August 2015, the French city of Montpellier hosted an OPERAs’ workshop on applying the concept of ecosystem services in No-Net Loss (NNL) Approaches.
In the framework of the OPERAs European case study, stakeholders ranging from private firms, public institutions, NGOs and research establishments came together to discuss the role of ecosystem services in NNL Approaches at a practical level. The participants discussed how the concept of ecosystem services is currently applied in the work of their companies, consultancies, public offices and research. Participants identified the major benefits but also limitations they encounter in applying ecosystem services. These were just some of the issues explored by participants together with the projects partners.
Participants were keen to share their first-hand experiences and “lessons learnt”, paving the way for a day of valuable exchanges across sectors, backgrounds and regions.
The OPERAs workshop was hosted by the Institute for Environmental Studies of VU University Amsterdam, together with Biotope and IEEP-Institute for European Environmental Policy. Prospex worked together with the partners to design and facilitate the workshop.
The aim of the OPERAs-project is to develop ecosystem science for policy and practice.
