On 16 and 17 February, the Dutch Presidency of the Council of the EU dedicated their conference on vocational education and training (VET) to the theme of “Skills for a lifetime”. More than 200 stakeholders discussed how vocational education can be rendered “future-proof”, hence capable to respond to a fluctuating labour market, with arising learning needs and changing technologies.
The Dutch EU Presidency called on Prospex to design and moderate the multi-stakeholder debates, attended by civil servants, policy makers, school directors, CEOs and other key players from business, education and industry.
The conference allowed for close interactions and focused debates, revolving around inspiring and excellent international examples. The outcomes of the conference will be compiled in a report with recommendations, “Stepping Stones towards a future proof VET”. The report will be included in the Presidency Conclusions of the Dutch Presidency and will be shared with the EU’s education ministers at the occasion of the Education, Youth, Culture and Sports Council on 30th May.
